So you've just started and want to offer products and goods for your visitors or customers, the chances are pretty high that you might be stuck choosing between Digital and Physical products. Newbies often face such dilemma and end up banging their heads. Sometimes one is not even able to decide and just end up spending their day reading other's success stories.

As compared to previous 5 years, people now prefer to search for information and reviews about a product beforehand. The customer is now much more Smarter and Resourceful, so you should make sure that you also change and adapt with time.

The chances are high that you might be an affiliate for any e-Book or any online course like the much popular Google Sniper (Now don't run and try promoting this product). It's growing at an alarming rate and hundreds of products are being added every minute. If you do or intend to do affiliate marketing then you must have heard of Marketplaces such as ClickBank, JVZoo or PayDotCom. There are a variety of offers to choose and sell but the problem is 'Does they sell that easily ?'.

Advantages

- A lot of products on every Niche and Topic, so you are spoilt for choice.
- Relatively cheaper a compared to physical goods.
- Easier to review and write about.
- Easy to create and low cost for selling.

But that doesn't mean they are the best. The market is heavily saturated. With every person given the power to create, a lot more people are trying to make money by creating their own products and promoting them.

It's easier for a product owner to dupe people and rip them off their money. Unless you've a following and established customer base, building trust is a big deal.

Plagiarism and Piracy. These are the biggest enemies of the virtual world. Sometimes people leak and copy content from the original owners, so a product can be seen in many forums and website available for free just a few days after the launch.

Giants such as Amazon and EBay are making a ton of money helping companies and individuals list and sell their merchandises to thousands of potential customers online. As you may know about their affiliate system Amazon Associates Program, they provide us the ability to earn commissions while people do shopping at their website (Of course through our affiliate link). While people often complain about their low commission rate of 4%-15% they tend to forget what Amazon is offering us for free. More on that a bit later.

Advantages

  • Unlike digital information of which there is a small and specific audience, every person on Earth likes shopping for themselves, friends and their pets.
  • It is not important for the visitor to buy a particular product for you to make commission. You'll make money on their every purchase.
I had earlier said that even though they offer low percentage of money, they are offering us a huge advantage for free. Credibility and Trust.

In every other business, you build them over a span of time before you make loyal customers but big e-commerce players are already all over the Internet and will continue to flourish. So why not work with them rather than choosing the other way round. Other than establishing trust, they also act as highly converting and beautiful landing pages. Amazon must be spending thousands if not millions in optimizing their pages, they are build to convert so why don't you make some use of their hard work.

That was quite a post. However, I am not completely in favour of physical goods as I'm not so passionate about them. I like working and learning about SEO, Affiliate Marketing, Social Media and that's my area of interest. There is competition in every aspect of Internet, you can't escape it. The answer is to try and learn to fight it.
